RunicForce

> Check out my new game!
Shape the magical ingredients you have into minions and use them in turn-based combat. Consider it to be a proof of concept for a game I might end up making one day!
Made in 2 days from scratch during Ludum Dare 58.
HOW TO PLAY:
- build units with ingredients, there is an in-game recipe book
- you CAN select a unit to command during your turn, use a left click
- after moving/attacking the unit will enter a recovery, skipping next turns
- attacking requires movement points - check out unit stat
Hotkeys:
- ENTER or SPACE to end the turn ("wait")
- R or ESCAPE to restart the level
- ctrl+G to complete the current battle (if struggling)
- Numeric keys (1, 2...) to switch between the runes (ritual screen)
- Ctrl+numeric key swaps the runes (ritual screen)

The kind of a creature you get depends on the element types used (e.g. Fire), their order and count. Most units have a specific recipe, but sometimes there is an extra secret way to summon the unit. Use the in-game book to browse the base recipes.
The ingredients also provide passive bonuses, so there is more than one way a single unit archetype will perform after being summoned: it can be a tank, or it can be a very fast skirmisher.

The Arcane element can be used to boost units: Life+Death can become Life+Death+Arcane+Life+Death. While still giving you the base recipe archetype unit (Life+Death), it will allow more flat stat bonuses to be accumulated through the ingredients placed on the table. A tier1 unit can be repeated up to 4 times (e.g. Life+Arcane+Life+Arcane+Life+Arcane+Life), a tier2 unit can be repeated 3 times, and tier3 can be repeated only once. Any valid recipe can be repeated with Arcane.
Difficulties:
- Easy = enemies have no ingredient-based bonuses
- Normal = enemies have up to 1 ingredient bonus
- Hard = enemies have up to 2 ingredient bonuses
Note: even "easy" can be challenging, depending on your tactical gaming experience. Hard difficulty is recommended only if you have beaten the game on "normal".

Really good game. Also one of the best game jam games I have played before.
I am glad you enjoyed it! I have plans to make a full-scale game out of these ideas in the near future. Some time after I release my current big project, I guess :D
I uploaded a post-jam version of the game.
Yes, it is true that the first LD upload didn’t even consider your selected difficulty. I thought about implementing it, but ran out of time. :)
good stuff. There seems to be a bug where you can’t attack the enemy that attacked just before. Or something like that…
good game!
bug: Freezes when you chain a recipe that’s not in the book
It’s a bug of the ludum dare build :D
I have many updates pending, this bugfix included. I am going to upload it somewhere closer to the ludum dare voting period. :)
More units, ingredients, levels, balance tweaks, bug fixes, and more
